New Oxford Library Activities

Activities for all at the New Oxford Library

Pick up the current title in our Readers Forum Book Discussion group and share your thoughts with us. We spend time talking about the author, discuss the book and then recommend other titles to each other, Fiction, Nonfiction, Best Sellers and old favorites. Registration is required so we have enough books for everyone to read. The Readers Forum Book Discussion is an adult book discussion group meeting on the Second Thursday of the month at 9:00AM – 10:00AM. The library provides books for this group. The title for January 12th will be Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen. The book for Feb.9 will be Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson.

Your toddler to preschool children will enjoy our new program “Rhymes to Reading” with Jeanette and Jane. Rhymes and reading stories, handouts as well as some simple crafts are provided by the library. Please register for Friday morning 11:00AM – 12:00Noon, on December 9 and Dec. 23.

We have 2 programs scheduled for the children to practice reading and enjoy pets in the library.

Children can improve their reading skills by attending the READ ALOUD to KPETS Therapy Animals after school on Monday, Dec. 5th and Dec.12th. Meeko and Cullen and other KPETS Therapy animals will be here with their volunteers to enjoy listening to the children read.

Join us for Books with KPETS on Thursday evening, 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM on Dec. 15 for Bedtime stories in your pajamas. Children can read to a pet one-to-one at their own pace. Wear your pajamas and pick a holiday book to read while your parents relax with a book or magazine.

We also have weekly Storytimes with Mary Ellen, a retired Reading teacher. No registration is necessary. You may come on Tuesdays at 10:30AM or Thursday Mornings at 11:00AM. Toddler age children to Preschool age children will enjoy seasonal stories and favorite characters such as Clifford, Curious George and one of my favorite characters, Frog.

Fiber Art Fantasy -Knit with Mary Lou. Bring your project to work on or begin a new one or make a 9X9 inch square for an SPCA blanket. The library will provide knitting needles and FREE yarn to use. Mary Lou is a retired teacher, has been knitting for many years and enjoys teaching people to knit. We have made wash cloths, scarves and hats and cuffs (Gloves without fingers). You have time to make a project for a gift.
