The ACLS has received a grant from the PNC Foundation to provide programming to 

support financial literacy education for preschool children.  The program focuses on

 needs and wants (choices),things you value and “spending, sharing,saving.”

Make and take a Time Capsule  Your and your family can learn about your life in 2012.

Week 4  Tuesday, July 3- 10:30AM

Make and take Craft “Find It” Jars-

Place special objects in jars of rice- great travel game.

Week 5  Tuesday, July 10 -10:30AM -Gardening in the Dark with Penn State Master Gardeners

 of Adams County- Rosemary and Denise will explain how why and how to compost with 

soda bottles and you can plant some seeds using compost and soil.

Week 6  Tuesday, July 17 -10:30AM –Skeeta”s Spectacular Pajama Party

Skeeta brings her stories to life with a few selected volunteers from the audience.

Thursday evening, July 19th - 6:30PM – KPETS Therapy Dogs- Bedtime Story Night

 Come in your PJ’s for an evening of fun with bedtime stories and snacks

Week 7 Tuesday, July 24- 10:30AM

Dream Big with "Space snacks".

Week 8 Tuesday, July 31- 10:30AM

 Planet Mars- Mars Science Laboratory, or Curiosity, will launch after Thanksgiving 2011 and

 land on Mars in August 2012. Laura will share information and a craft.

Other library activities during the summer

New Storytime scheduled for preschool ages 3-5 years old.

We will have stories, handouts and activities from the Kindergarten Here I Come calendar. These activities are linked to the Pennsylvania Early Learning Standards.

June 7, 14, 28-Thursday mornings at 11:00AM and will continue all school year. No registration necessary.

Thursday, August 23rd- 6:30PM –

KPETS Therapy Dogs- Come and learn all about Pet Care with this fun and interactive presentation.

After School Reading, Summer Reading and More

25 kids read a total of 114 books during Read  Aloud to Therapy Animals after school on Mondays 3:30PM-4:30PM from Sept. to May.  KPETS Therapy animals-Meeko, Cullen and several of their animal friends enjoyed the kids and the stories they read. Three kids received a free book for reaching a goal of reading 12 books. This program will resume in September.

We have 2 special programs - Jim Rule children’s entertainer on June 21 at 1:00PM and Skeeta on July 17 at 10:30AM- registration required. We will also have 3 KPETS programs, some craft activities and a healthy snack program.  

Reading is a skill for life, and, as with any skill, practice is key. Studies have shown that children who read more become better readers. Children who read over the summer months often gain, rather than loose, important skills. Register online or at your library and report your time reading so you can see how much you are reading this summer. Children who read up to 120 minutes a week for 8 weeks will receive a report to take back to school to show their teachers how well they read this summer.

New Storytime for children ages 3-5 years old scheduled on June 7, 14, 28 on Thursday mornings from 11:00AM - 12Noon 20 minutes of stories and activities- 20 minutes for parent’s social time.

We will have stories, handouts and activities from the Kindergarten Here I Come calendar. The Office of Child Development and Early Learning has developed calendars packed with fun activities that also help develop all the skills young children need to success. Each month has a theme and includes four weeks of activities based on the theme. Each activity is also linked to a "learning area" – the type of development that you are encouraging. These learning areas are connected to Pennsylvania's Early Learning Standards.

          Need help with your computer skills, we have free Computer Classes for adults on the second Thursday of the month at 1:00PM. The scheduled classes are:

June 14^th-Searching the Internet, July 12^th - Email and August 9^th - Word.

          Readers Forum is an adult book discussion group meeting on the Second Thursday of the month from 9:00AM – 10:00AM. We talk about the Author and then we talk about the book for the month. We also share some comments on other books we are reading. The schedule of books:  June 14 –The Liar’s Club by Mary Karr, July 12 – The Help by Kathryn Stockett, August 9 – One Summer by David Baldacci. Registration is required so we can provide enough books to read.

 New Oxford Area Library located at 122 N. Peter Street in New Oxford, PA.

 Our hours of operation are Mon. and Thurs. 2PM- 8PM   Tues., Wed., and Fri. 11AM – 5PM    Sat. 10AM – 4PM, we are closed Sunday.
