Summer Destination: The New Oxford Area Library

Summer Destination: The New Oxford Area Library
It’s almost here!  We’ve all been looking forward to the last day of school-- some with joy, some with fear.   Children and teachers need a break from their studies and testing.    Parents are looking for ideas as to how they can keep the kids busy until school starts again in August.   Library programs are FREE and close-by.
Here are some upcoming programs available to all at the New Oxford Area Library
“Kindergarten, Here I Come Storytime”, ages 3 – 5; Thursday mornings, 11:00AM ‘til Noon;  June 6, 13, 20 and 27.   The hour will consist of 20-minutes of stories and activities, 20-minutes of parental social time and then the remaining time to check-out materials. (NOTE: “Kindergarten, Here I Come Storytime” will continue all year, with stories, activities and special handouts as listed on the “Kindergarten, Here I Come” Calendar.
The Office of Child Development and Early Learning has developed four calendars packed with fun activities that are specially designed to aid in the development of skills young children need to be successful in undertaking First Grade work. Each month has a theme, and includes four weeks of activities based on that theme.   Every activity is linked to a "learning area" – the type of development that is being encouraged.  These learning areas are taken from the Pennsylvania's Early Learning Standards Manual.
“Introduction the Internet”, June 9, 1:00PM:  A Free Computer class.  (Other Basic Computer Classes will be scheduled, as requested, i.e. Word, Cut-copy and paste, Searching the Internet, Email, etc. ) Talk with a librarian to schedule needed topic, space is limited.
“Readers’ Forum”, June 13; 9:00AM:   an Adult Books’ Discussion Group , The Greater Journey by David McCullough.  Be sure to come in and get your copy from the library; and then bring your comments to the book discussion on June 13th.
“Movie Time with KPETS Therapy Dogs”, June 13, 6:30PM.   This summer the therapy dogs will provide different opportunities for kids and families to enjoy and learn about good pet care.
“The Shazam Magic Show” with Peter Wood, June 18, 11:30AM.  This program is made possible by a ‘For Me, For You, For Later’ grant from PNC Bank. A family fun time with magic and an opportunity to have pictures taken with a very Special visitor to our library.  Elmo, will stop by after the show and hand-out PNC First Steps To Spending, Sharing and Saving kits.
