Model train and other activities at the New Oxford Library



Kids of all ages will enjoy our John Deere Model train on display the week before Thanksgiving through Jan 15, 2015. This train was purchased by the Friends of the New Oxford Area Library and is maintained by a volunteer. Enjoy the sound effects and see the smiles of the “kids” as the train goes by. We also have several books to help you build your own model train layout.

New Lego Program on Sat., Nov. 15 at 10:00AM to 12NOON. Stephen will be earning a Boy Scout badge helping kids create with the Legos at the library. Registration is required- limited seating- call or stop at the library. We hope to make this a monthly activity.

Adults have 2 opportunities for conversations about books at the library. We will talk about the author’s biography, the book we have read and then we have a time for book sharing- what else are you reading. Registration is required, the library will provide the materials for the discussion.

THE BOOK SHELF Mystery books- Adult Reader's group will meet on the 1st Thursday of the month from 9:00AM to 10:00 AM. Join us on December 4, 2014- Dashing Through the Snow by Carol Higgins Clark.

THE READER’S FORUM Adult Reader's group will meet on the 2nd Thursday of the month from 9:00AM to 10:00 AM. Join us on DECEMBER 11,2014 - The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.

Call and make an appointment for a Computer Class. Learn -Word 2007 or 2010, Cut-copy and paste, Searching the Internet, Windows 7 or Basic Email.

Get Caught Reading with KPETS at the library. Keystone Pet-Enhanced Therapy Services (KPETS) is a nonprofit organization. Children will have the opportunity to meet a registered, certified pet and read to that pet, one-on-one. Reading aloud to dogs: Increases enthusiasm for reading, develops reading skills, teaches children how to interact with animals and promotes confidence. Our KPETS dogs are: Meeko, Cullen, Sailor, Quendolyn and Casi.

Come to the New Oxford Library on Mon. Dec 8 at 6:30PM and on Thurs. Dec 18 at 6:30PM. Come for a special visit with Casi on Mon. Dec. 29th at 6:30PM.

Kindergarten Here I Come Storytime is scheduled all year on Thursday mornings from 11:00AM - 12Noon for preschool children ages 3 to 5 years old. We will have stories, handouts and activities from the Kindergarten Here I Come calendar.

The Office of Child Development and Early Learning developed a calendar packed with fun activities that also help develop all the skills young children need. These learning areas are connected to Pennsylvania's Early Learning Standards. Come to the library for a time for kids to listen and play with each other and time for parents and caregivers to talk and get books.

September is Library Card Sign-up Month

September is Library Card Sign-up Month -
 a time when the American Library Association and libraries
 across the country remind parents that a library card
is the most important school supply of all.
If you have an old card come to the library to add your current information, if you lost your card come in and we will replace it.
If you need a card- it is free to register and receive a card.
 Come to your local library and see what we have to offer you.

 Preschool children ages 3-5  
We will have stories, handouts and activities from the 
 Kindergarten Here I Come calendar.

 Each month has a theme and includes four weeks of activities based on the theme. 
Each activity is also linked to a "learning area" –
 the type of development that you are encouraging.
